 Beaches of Virgin Gorda

Sunset Watch guests return year after year for the beauty and seclusion of its Virgin Gorda beaches.....
We have a beach to suit every mood!

Enjoy three of the best beaches the British Virgin Islands have to offer, just steps from Sunset Watch Villa.

This Virgin Gorda guest house sits perched above the usually secluded Nail Bay Beach. With private access to these pristine sands you'll rarely find or see another soul on this stretch of coast line. Each Sunset Watch Villa is equipped with a picnic set for you to spend the day sunning, swimming, and snorkeling. Healthy coral reefs are literally feet from the shore. Pick your snorkeling spot from the deck of Sunset Watch or Sundowner. Enjoy an intimate sunset stroll after dinner, usually without another person in sight.

When you decide you want to escape the privacy of Nail Bay, you are in luck because Virgin Gorda has tons of other beaches to explore!

The Baths

baths5.jpg

The centerpiece of this dramatic area on Virgin Gorda's north shore is The Baths, a geological wonder comprised of awe-inspiring granite boulders, which form sheltered sea pools on the beach's edge. The protected area also includes Devil's Bay, which can be reached from The Baths by a series of ladders scaling the boulders. Just north of The Baths, Spring Bay is reached by a separate road and includes a lovely white sand beach.

In spite of evidence of the island's largely volcanic origins, these huge granite boulders lie in piles on the beach, forming scenic grottoes that are open to the sea. Granite is an intrusive igneous rock, thus not volcanic. It did form from magma, however, at great depth. Granite becomes exposed at surface only after geologic ages of erosion removes the overburden. The most well-known attraction on the island, these giant boulders or batholiths, brought to the surface by volcanic eruptions, are scattered about and separated by brilliant white sand, forming a beautiful grotto and tranquil pools.

Mountain Trunk Beach

Mountain Trunk Beach is a short walk from Sunset Watch. This beach is famous for its ultra fine sand, stunning views of Tortola and the neighboring BVIs to the East, and beginners snorkeling spots. Small and seclude, this Virgin Gorda beach is a fine place to spend an afternoon.

Long Bay Beach

Virgin Gorda's Long Bay Beach is just a short car ride to the North End of Nail Bay Resort. A gorgeous, half moon shaped beach and lovely anchorage tucked in behind Mountain Point. The beach and anchorage rarely receive the acclaim they deserve. Though shaded in the early morning hours, full sun reaches parts of the beach by about 10:30 am and is present throughout the rest of the day until sunset. The sunsets here are generally pretty spectacular.

Park your car and follow a short foot path to another of the BVI's secluded beaches. Swim, snorkel, or explore. There's fabulous snorkeling in the area, with two separate, healthy reefs to explore. Lot's to see, particularly out near the point. If you follow the beach to it's northernmost reaches you'll find a trail that leads off the beach and up to the ruins of structures built by Virgin Gorda's original sugar barons. Make the most difficult decision you have to make on your Virgin Gorda Vacation this one..... which beach today? Ready to start your BVI vacation now? Go ahead and reserve a villa now!
